Avian Influenza is a contagious viral infection which can affect all species of birds. Young fattening turkeys and laying hens are usually the most affected species. Free-living birds tend to act as primary introduction of infection into domestic poultry and free-living birds can carry these viruses without becoming ill due to natural resistance. The main symptoms are:- •Depression •Loss of appetite •Cessation of egg laying •Nervous signs •Swelling and blue discolouration of combs and wattles due to the disturbance of blood circulation •Coughing •Sneezing •Diarrhoea Disease prevention can be achieved with good housekeeping using Defence 7, our defra approved chicken coop disinfectant.
